Early on Thursday morning, the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” on a 215–214 vote, moving forward a budget reconciliation package that would repeal Section 28 of the Food and Nutrition Act—the National Education and Obesity Prevention Grant Program—and eliminate SNAP Nutrition Education (SNAP-Ed).

This action would dismantle the country’s largest network of evidence-based initiatives helping millions of SNAP participants make healthier, cost-effective food choices and be more physically active.

SNAP-Ed is about more than nutrition. It supports American agriculture by connecting families with U.S.-grown foods and local producers, benefiting families and strengthening rural economies while encouraging responsible food choices. At a time when we should be expanding opportunities for health and wellness, eliminating SNAP-Ed would be a major step backward with profound negative effects on millions of eligible individuals and families.

Next Steps: The Senate

Focus now shifts to the U.S. Senate, where leaders have signaled plans to make far smaller cuts to SNAP—$1 billion compared to the House’s $294 billion. However, Senate negotiations are ongoing, and your voice is urgently needed to protect SNAP and SNAP-Ed from cuts.
